1996 Annual Jones Family Reunion

June 28-July 1, 1996

The term "southern hospitality" was not wasted on those attending the 26th annual Jones reunion hosted by Dennis and Kathy Jones in North Carolina on June 28th through July 1, 1996. The activities were split between the homes of Dennis and Rollan Jones with no end to the variety of food prepared and served from hot dogs, hamburgs, seafood, chicken, Boston butt, plus all the trimmings.

Activities included everything from card playing, talking, swimming and the "Big 'Ole Fish" Contest at Rollan and Kathy's to boating, fishing, and swimming at Dennis and Kathy's on Monday. Winners of the fishing contest were:
Biggest catfish: Emily Fornero (2 1/2 lbs.) - $20 and Karen Sterling (7 1/4 lbs.) - $10
Biggest brim: Richard Dorstewitz (1/2 lbs.) - $20 and Kenneth Jones (1/3 lbs.) - $10
Biggest bass: David P. Jones (2 lbs.) - $20
Most fish caught: Jeff and LuAnn Kindlespire
Youngest fisherperson: Kathy Fornero

There were a total of 45 guests who signed the registry during the course of the week-end traveling from Florida, the Carolina's, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Illinois. Catching up on what's been happening during the last year was and is always the number one choice of recreation. With a gathering this large, there is always something new to report.

The business meeting was held on Sunday, June 30, at 2:15 P.M. with a call to order and a thank you given to all the hosts and co-hosts. The secretary/treasurer's report was read by Pam Hutchins-Dorstewitz and approved. There was a total of $479.95 in the account to be used as seed money. Vivian Hutchins gave the annual historian's report.

There was no old business to report, but plenty of new business. Will and Terry Barber became parents to William Jesse Barber on February 29, 1996 and weighed in at 9 pounds, 7 ounces. and was 23 inches long. Grandpa Rollan Jones and Jesse now share Leap Year birthday honors! Kaleigh Renee Heidenreich was born on January 11, 1996 to Kent Heidenreich and Bobette Spillman at a weight of six pounds and 14 ounces. Congratulations to the parents and welcome to the new additions to the Jones clan.

The marriage between Angela Heidenreich, daughter of Tom and Evelyn Heidenreich, to Craig Seggerman occurred on June 22, 1996. Congratulations!

Three high school graduations were held in June of 1996 - two in Illinois and one in Michigan. Erik heidenreich (son of Tim and Marie Heidenreich) and Randy McCloskey (son of Ricky and Linda Heidenreich, both from Illinois, and Amanda Sampsell (daughter of Sandra Hutchins-Merchant and Alan Sampsell) graduated from Michigan. Congratulations to all three!

There was also a death to report that occurred during this last year. Aunt Adell Phillips died on April 12, 1996 and will be missed.

Discussion then moved on to the where the site of the next family reunion would be held. There were so many volunteers for this event that Rollan had difficulty restoring peace and order so that a decision could be made. Finally, it was agreed that David and Judy Jones would host the 1997 reunion in Quincy, Illinois during the last weekend in June. In 1998, Tim and Linda Fornero would be the hosts at Pontiac, Illinois if their pole barn is completed. After that, Kenneth Jones volunteered to have the reunion every years as long as he didn't have to travel in the westerly direction. What a commitment!

Having exhausted the agenda items, the meeting was adjourned at 2:50 P.P.

SEE EVERYONE NEXT YEAR IN ILLINOIS!

Respectfully submitted,

Pamela Hutchins-Dorstewitz
