Our Family's Journey Through Time
This year's reunion started with a chili supper on Friday evening as the first of the celebrants started to arrive. The Donald Jones' came up from Illinois early and helped out a great deal. David and Judy Jones came down from Belding and did their usual competent job of getting things organized. The tent was pitched and enjoyed by those arriving on Friday night.
Saturday dawned bright and early and from then on, the excitement grew as we all waited to see the next arrival pull in. Many new faces were happily greeted from Iowa.
A great meal of hamburgs and hot dogs was enjoyed by everyone at lunch and afterwards, the younder set played games of volleyball and baseball while the more mature and sophisticated members relaxed and visited in the welcome shade of the tent.
Siding for the house of Dad and Mother Jones was awaiting the willing hands of the stalwart male members with loving encouragement and lots of beer urging them on. We would like a moment of silence while we recall the terrible injury incurred by Dennis Jones in the line of duty. It is just a nasty rumor that this was received while opening a beer can. A special thanks to Donald Jones, our brave paramedic for his swift treatment of the injury. We all salute the sacrifice made by the workers in giving up their leisure time in order to complete the siding job.
A terrific dinner was werved with fried chicken and lots of good talk. The bingo game was played with resounding cries of Bingo rolling across the yard and nearby fields, after dinner which gave everyone a appetite for a light snack later that night.
We especially enjoyed visiting with Grandpa Jones as he was hospitalized for a time. From the care he got from his beautiful nurses, we rather suspect he enjoyed it. Everyone gathered round for helpings of the cake celebrating Grandma and Grandpa Jones Birthdays.
Brunch was served with Pancakes, scrambles eggs, sausage and bacon being fixed while you waited. It was expertly handled by David and Judy Jones, Sandy Sampsell, Ann Thoms, and Kenneth Jones. A moment of horror occurred when Brian Jones, the conscience of the Reunion, asked the scrambler in the act of breaking the 87th egg, if she knew she was murdering a baby chicken.
We really hit the jack pot on new additions this year which are as follows:
Pam and Larry Jacobs - Kerrie Elizabeth - May 19, 1977
Tom and Evelyn Heidenreich - Angela - August 17, 1976
Tim and Marie Heidenreich - Timothy Michael - July 26, 1976
Fred and Rita Heidenreich - Jennifer Ann - October 12, 1976
Karen and Neal Kukman - Amy Jean - March 24, 1977
From the looks of it, the winters are much colder in Illinois.
A business meeting was held with great rowdiness exhibited as usual by a radical group wishing to overthrow all orderly forms of reunions. They were restrained and the meeting continued.
A motion was made to present the surplus money to Mom and Dad Jones for the use of the electricity and water, a tidy sum of $40.00. A motion was made to make Mr. and Mrs. Horace Hutchins the hosts for next year's reunion which was passed and seconded.
Delores Mitchell was thanked for her help during David Jones' illness aned the preparation for the reunion. We greatly appreciate all she has done. A vote of thanks was taken for the application of the siding on the Jones' house. We also noted the presence of many friends of the Jones who visited us during the reunion, many of whom we only see at the reunion and were glad of the change to visit with them.
A total of 89 people were fed and bedded this year, a new Jones Reunion record. The total cost this year was $399.49 and $439.14 was taken in. Our thanks to David and Judy Jones for a fantastic time.
