We set up the tables and stove and served suppper to the tent crew and their families.
The seventh annual Jones reunion was held on June 26 and 27 at the home of Mr and Mrs David L. Jones, Paw Paw, Michigan. A total of 71 people attended the reunion.
We were happy to have Ethel Murphy from Bend, Ore. with us again this year. Roy and Loretta Guy and their daughter Pat and her husband Louie Bram arrived from Iowa. Edgar and Adel Phillips came from Illinois. On Sunday we're glad to see Virginia Jones and her mother, Ester Amsden. Other guests included Wm. and Ruby Bills, Dorthy Zwalua, and Beatrice and Bertha Cavanaugh.
Lunch was served and the afternoon was spent with people playing cards, baseball, volleyball, relaxing, attending flea markets, and catching up on all the news.
At lunch tickets for the door prize were distributed and Horace Hutchins was the big winner. The prize was a giant empty kidney bean can. I can state emphatically that the rumors being circulated that the contest was fixed were completely false.
After dinner the card games were continued, and a Bingo game was started with Phil Thoms calling the numbers. The Bingo game proved to be very popular. The tent provided shade and with the flaps down kept us cozy and warm at night, enabling us to remain together for a longer visit.
After the card and Bingo games a midnight snack was served with hot roast beef sandwiches, sloppy joes, desert, and coffee and soft drinks.
Everyone met at 10:00 for Sunday Brunch, we served;
Pancakes
Sausage
Scrambled Eggs
Orange Juice
Coffee, Milk, Tea
A protest was heard from the younger family members who questioned the arrangement of free beer for the adults while no soft drinks were provided for them. The discussion resulted with a motion that was seconded to provide beer and pop, with each having it's own kitty. The motion carried.
A request was made for clarification of who was to pay dues and how much was to be paid. The chairperson re-read the minutes of the 1975 reunion which states that the dues were raised from $10.00 to $15.00 per couple and from $5.00 to $7.50 for a single person.
The meeting ended with the announcement that David and Judy Jones would be in charge of the reunion arrangements next year, 1977, with Neal and Karen Kukman as co-hosts.
A macreme owl wall hanging made by Vivian Hutchins was presented to Ethel Murphy to show our appreciation for helping Mother and Dad get ready for the reunion.
We were entertained by a short puppet show which was presented by Terri Leigh Jones, Vicki Sue Jones, and Cathy Jones, after the business meeting. We are glad to report it had a happy ending.
After a lunch of leftovers, family and friends began to leave for their homes.
The area was cleaned up and the tent was struck at 5:19 EST ending the 1976 Jones Reunion.
A final note from the hosts:
We would like to thank everyone for their outstanding co-operation this year.
A special thanks to Dad and Mother for the use of their home again, and for acting as substitute co-hosts, when Jeff and Luann Kindlespire could not attend the reunion.
A grateful thanks to the tent crew, to Kris Hutchins who volunteered her time to help Grandpa mow the lawn for the reunion, to David Jones, Kenny Jones, and Sandy Hutchins who helped with the cooking., (good job).
A special thanks to David and Judy Jones who transported the tent from Flint, for their donation of sausage for Sunday Brunch and for the lovely pictures of the reunion every year, and a final thanks to Donald Jones who arranged for the superb weather for the reunion weekend.
